The Stuff Kids Say and Do

Random things:

Claire came up from watching TV in the basement and said 'Did you know potatoes are made from potatoes?"  And people say TV is bad for kids!  The weird thing is she was playing Wii Sports.

Oliver brought Andes Mints to Claire and me in my bedroom where we were all watching PBS.  He brought two mints each in three ziploc samdwich bags.  Because that's how we eat all our food.  In little plastic bags.

At dinner the other night we were talking about Michelle being a veterinarian when she grows up.  She thought a minute and tapped the gallon of milk and said "But I'm going to be one of the ones that drink milk."  I know every kid mixes up veterinarian with vegetarian but how did she mix it up with vegan?  I don't even know how she knows that.  My house is about as far from vegan as you can get.

Home Made Easter Dinner

We celebrated Easter with the Traditional Easter Ham and au gratin potatoes.  All homemade...

Now I know what you're thinking, besides what is that.  You, Sheryl, made something homemade?  Well, not exactly...

But you have to look closer

See?  Tastes as good as HOMEMADE.
Still, we all sat around the table and fought about discussed who had eaten enough to get dessert, who's milk was who's, I want the pink cup, no it's my cup, I had it first...and isn't that what family dinner is all about?

The Wisdom of Oli

Despite all evidence to the contrary, maybe Oli is smart.  He gave me these

(flowers) but made sure to tell me "Don't eat them.  They Yucky."

Too Quiet

On Sunday Jade and I realized the house was very quiet.  Too quiet.  For those of you who don't have kids, no, it doesn't everyone is being good and found something to do.  It means they are into something they shouldn't be in.  Usually.  I mean 99% of the time.  But this time:

Yes, that is Claire passed out on the couch and Oliver on the floor of Elliot's room.  Now I have to believe he went in there to do something he wasn't supposed to but, for once, he was too tired.
Michelle, Elliot, Jade and I had a nice peaceful dinner.  Michelle pointed out that this is what is would be like with just two kids.  She is convinced that is the perfect number.  And most some days so am I.

Sorry about the Weather

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say sorry about all the weird weather lately.  I just found out on Tuesday that Elliot made this at school:

It is a weather machine.  It makes the weather.  Rest assured I have disabled it and had a long talk with Elliot about the dangers of messing with the weather.  Everything should get back to normal in a couple of months.  Again, so sorry.

Why would I put batteries in that?

Claire and Oliver are having a great time and playing together on this:

But why, why, why, did I put batteries in this:

Yes, it is a siren.  And it sounds just like a police siren.  Not a quiet kids one.  No, no.  It sounds just like the real thing.  Why would I do this?  I have no idea.  What I do know is they better not get hurt because my headphones are up too loud to hear and screaming.

Gross!

This is what Oliver was doing this morning while I am up in bed suffering with out of control allergies.

In case you are wondering that is a bag with gumballs.  That's not the gross part.  The other thing is a cup with about 20 half chewed pieces of gum.  That's right.  He chews a piece for about two minutes, then spits it in the cup.

Oh, keep the gum where he can't get it, you say.  Okay.  Gee why didn't I think of that?

Yes that is the gumball machine on the highest cabinet in the kitchen!

The Smart One

Everyone is always telling us how smart Claire is.  So her dance teacher (through the preschool) called to let me know what the classes would cost.  She said how well Claire did and how smart she was.  We were all sitting at dinner and I was telling Jade what the teacher said about how smart Claire was and Claire chose this exact moment to say "I wet my pants two time today."

So Smart.

The Time Change

We all hate the time change but Michelle, last night, a week after we changed time, had a meltdown about it.  She was crying so hard saying she didn't want to go to bed at seven because it was really six.  She was really, really upset.  She was ok after we told her she could read in her room until eight.  This morning, she wasn't upset anymore but she keep talking about how it's really 7:30 not 8:30.  I'm wishing I had never told her about the time change.  What will she do in the fall?

Also, Oli likes to say "I can do it my byself."  And is case you misread It's My Byself not by myself:)

Random stuff

Instead of saying 'my nose is running', Oliver says 'my nose is coming out'.

And he looks at me like I am a genius when I answer questions on Dora.
